At St Nicholas CE Primary School we want to prepare and equip our children with the skills they need if they choose to pursue an apprenticeship, job or career linked to an interest in DT, and obtain qualifications such as BTECs/NVQs/Diplomas/Degrees in their future. It is imperative that here at St Nicholas we value DT and deliver the skills with the same respect given to all subjects – to allow all our children the opportunity and aspirations to follow their dreams and skills further on in life.
Design and Technology equips our children with essential life skills such as:
- Problem solving
- Organisation
- Communication
- Creativity
And further develops skills in:
- Maths
- Art
- Media
- Graphic design
- IT and computing
- Photography
- Textiles
DT is taught on a cycle of skills needed:
Research - Design - Make - Evaluate
With each part as important as the next. DT at St Nicholas’ will be taught in blocked units - with the interests and motivation of children and staff at the core of this teaching, capitalising on the opportunities our location gives us.
